The year was 1975. The place was the old Rhodeheaver Auditorium in Winona Lake, Indiana. One day in May, hundreds were gathered together for one purpose.
The event?
The final ceremony for the graduating Senior Class of ’75 Warsaw High.
Go Tigers!
As I flipped my tassel to the other side of the mortarboard, I breathed a sigh of relief.
Finally… after four long years, the brain-numbing learning was over. Time to get out and make some serious cash!
Silly boy.
Now, 43 years later, I’ve come to realize that graduation wasn’t the end of my education… it was just the beginning.
The same is true of my copywriting career.
Even more so.
I’ve jokingly stated that my copywriting skills training started in high school. One of my buddies and I took a semester of typing class.
We didn’t take it to improve our typing prowess… all the other students in the class were girls. We wanted to improve our chances of getting a date!
Oh, yeah… there was the high school yearbook, too. I was an editor and writer, so I guess that counts for something.
While I never graduated from a college, that didn’t mean my education was on hold. I still had to develop my skills in any job I held. Better skills meant more money.
And that also holds true for B2B copywriting.
So, in this article I want to relate some of my training advice for new copywriters.
I can’t guarantee you’ll have the same success I have, should you follow my advice… You might do even better.
